The Bakers of Wroxall Cookbook

Here at Wren Hall we take baking very seriously! We are well known locally for the popular Sunday Teas that are put on through the summer months and from that we have created a beautiful hardback cookbook packed with lots of recipes from the wonderful bakers that have baked cakes for the Wren Hall Teas for over the years.

It has been beautifully put together with illustrations and photographs by an established pattern designer/illustrator and a Warwickshire photographer.

As a collection of real people’s recipes and tips it’s a unique piece of local, social history and a legacy to be cherished.

How it came about

The Sunday Teas tradition started more that 25 years ago with 3 ladies, 3 cakes and a pot of tea - it’s growth and it’s success has been such that, on average, 150 visitors turn up each Sunday afternoon during the summer to enjoy a huge range of home-made cakes. The Sunday Teas have also provided a great opportunity for many charities to raise much needed funds by running one of the teas sessions.

From all that success, it seemed to be a natural progression to take all that experience and all that creativity and capture it in one place - The Bakers of Wroxall cookbook

We held two fabulous workshop events when bakers came together to ‘Talk Cake’ – a very popular pastime! We gathered lots of baking memories that have surrounded the Sunday Teas over the years and these create a backstory to the great local tradition of cake baking.

The Bakers of Wroxall cookbook was launched on 10th June 2023, with baking demos, singing, book-signing and, of course, lots of delicious cakes to sample from the cookbook!

Naturally, we have lots of photographs of cakes in the book, but we are very fortunate that Warwickshire artist Sara Page worked with us to provide beautiful contemporary illustrations throughout the book.

We were also very fortunate to have received various grants to fund this ambitious project. The good news is that monies from the sales of the cookbook will go towards providing even more creative community activities at Wren Hall.

We feel we have produced a fabulous book that will be great for local folk to use and pass on to future generations as a legacy of the Wren Hall Teas. It would also be a perfect gift for friends & family.
